The Race

This was the first ever kiteboarding race across Tampa Bay, 20 miles to the finish line at the Sunshine Skyway bridge. Thirty-three competitors successfully completed the race.

This video is of the race's start. It was filmed by Chris Everingham from the top of a van. A nice perspective of the scene on the beach. Jayson Orkins coordinated the event. He is the guy in the red lifeguard jacket blowing the horn in everyone's ear. So many weeks of careful preparation lead up to the one moment when the horn sounds. Look at all those kites in the air. Is that cool or what?

Congratulations to everyone involved. The TampaBay KiteMaster was a smoothly run and safe event which we hope will become an annual celebration of the sport on the Gulf coast of Florida.
