Day 1

(23.2 mb - 3:10 minutes)

The most reliable thing I know in the world is the Sun. It always shows up on time and you can count on it 100%. I filmed the sunrise in this kite video on day 1 of 2004 and made a set of New Year goals and promises to keep. I regret to say that I broke the first promise to myself within 20 days. I was upset with my lack of fortitude until I started thinking of that dumb old saying... Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

As corny as it sounds, it is true. Day 1 does not have to be January 1. With each day the Sun rises you get a "do-over." How cool is that? Yet how many of us take advantage of this daily occurance? What does this have to do with kiteboarding? One of the best letters KiteFlix received last year was this one... Hey George, I currently live in southern California and I'll be moving back to Fort Lauderdale and want to get some kitesurfing lessons and was hoping you could steer me in the right direction in regards to instructors. I sit at my desk, talking to clients and watch your videos and wish i was already there. Your videos kick butt! Thanks...., Brad, Los Angeles, California

The next time I heard from Brad he had indeed moved back to Florida. I myself moved back to Florida in 1999 and I was fortunate enough to stumble into the kiteboarding scene. It has been a breath of fresh air in my life. Now please, don't everyone start moving to Florida! There are sharks, hurricanes & mosquitos the size of hummingbirds. Stay where you are! The point is that if something is not working out in your life, don't be afraid of change.

Included in this kite video are some good days I am glad to have been a part of. October 29th, 2003 filming ANDY DEFILIPPIS. Andy is a sponsored rider who has become a good friend over the years. The video clips of DeFilippis were filmed in Delray Beach behind the Gulfstream Bath & Tennis Club and most of the shots were taken from the surf with my video waterhousing. November 3rd, 2003 I filmed another friend, ANDY HURDMAN, as he rode a downwinder from Pompano Beach to Boca Raton. The pier he almost smacks into is in Deerfield Beach and the jetty he rides around so casually is at the Boca Inlet where there are some wicked currents and jagged rocks. Hurdman is also the guy you see on the boat and that clip was filmed this summer after a good wakeboarding session on Lake Ida in Delray Beach. On August 8th, 2003 I was down in Miami at Matheson Hammock Park. There were many good riders at Matheson that day but these clips feature SHANNON BEST, ALEX SHOGREN, JEFF BEIGE and also the lovely MILA SARDELLI from CABRINHA. I filmed for hours that beautiful day and the shots are just a few clips from the late afternoon when the tide went out and the water turned to butter.

Judging from the statistics of this website I would say that many of you are reading this from the inside of an office, just like Brad was a few months ago back in California. Nothing wrong with that. However, if you ride a kiteboard or a snowboard or even a pogo stick - whatever it is that puts a smile on your face, don't put it off another day. Pick ourself up and go for it. Because if today really is the first day of the rest of your life, shouldn't you make it a good one?

Ride on,
